Questioning: The Key to Student Engagement and Performance

Description:

This hands-on workshop is designed to increase teachers’ awareness of questioning techniques and strategies in order to create cognitive challenges in their classrooms through their questions. They will understand the different reasons and purposes of questioning (assessing understanding, building understanding, and explaining learning), and will be able to:

  • Utilize higher-level questioning
  • Give (appropriate, meaningful, and specific) feedback
  • Allow for appropriate wait time
  • Use follow-up questions
  • Promote student created questions
  • Understand the difference between open and closed questions
  • Use Bloom’s Taxonomy
  • Incorporate Costa’s Levels of Questioning
  • Promote student cognitive engagement

The workshop will be presented by Jamie Saponaro.
Ms.  Saponaro is a former elementary and middle school teacher, and District Technology Coordinator.  Jamie is currently an instructional strategies consultant and educational technology trainer providing professional development throughout New Jersey.

Please be advised that by registering for an SRI&ETTC workshop you are liable for the workshop registration fee. If your school district does not pay the registration fee you will be billed by Stockton University. If you need to cancel your registration, please see the Cancellation Policy below.

Cancellation Policy

You can withdraw from a workshop at no cost, up until two weeks before the workshop date. Please notify us of your cancellation by mail, telephone or fax. Withdrawals within two weeks prior to workshop date will forfeit half of the registration fee. No-shows on the day of the workshop will forfeit the entire registration fee.
